8th September - Visit to Museum of prehistoric Thira and off to Naxos
We woke up to a very windy day so decided to do our own flying scarf photo shoot because I didn’t have a dress voofy enough to do a flying dress shoot.
We headed back to our room to have breakfast and spend the last of our time before checking out enjoying the view. We walked back into Fira to go to the Museum of prehistoric Thira that houses all the artifacts taken from the Akrotiri excavation site we visited yesterday.
Frescoes retrieved from the walls of the excavation site
Small gold figurine found in 1999 in small wooden box when they were excavating to put in pylons for the roof
We were amazed that all these items were made over 4000 years ago and are in such good condition. After our visit we had lunch at a restaurant and ordered a Santorini salad made with the local cheese and small tomatoes, it was delicious. We had to make our way quickly back to the hotel as we were due to be picked up at 2pm for our transfer to the Ferry Port. It was very difficult as there were so many people and they were all walking very slowly. We made it in back in time and the drive to the port went smoothly. As we had our seats booked we didn’t bother to rush on to the boat and were one of the last to board.
Even though it was very windy the sail was quite smooth and I didn’t need to take any sea sickness medication. Once we arrived in Naxos we headed straight to the hotel to check in dumped our bags and set off again to have a look at the Temple of Apollo before sunset. There were many people heading up to watch the sunset from that vantage point so we took our photos, ate our sandwiches and headed back down before it got too busy.
View of Chora (Naxos Town) from Temple of Apollo
Had to take a selfie at sunset
